Don’t let the sun take its toll
Like a well-tanned body, having that quintessential proof summer fun – the sun-bleached hair – isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Too much of those warm rays cause harm to the pigment of your hair, just like when your skin is either tanned or burnt. Exposing weakened, thinning hair to even greater tension should be the last thing you want to do. It’s best to cover with a hat. That old notion that donning hats causes hair loss is not true, so wear a protective lid with confidence.
Swimmer’s hair
If you’re a fan of swimming pools, then you’ll want to wash your hair well after each session. Chemicals aren’t kind to our hair. Chemicals like chlorine, which are ever-present in pools, can be harmful to your hair and possibly result in faster hair loss. Chlorine pools are so bad that some competitive swimmers have found it colors their hair for a time. You might be able to imagine what kind of damage those chemicals can do to your thinning, fragile hair. Also retain in mind that you need to wash your hair well after a plunge in the ocean. The salt in the water can have a drying effect on your hair, which can be compromised even more by any sun exposure after you are finished swimming. A good guideline is to promptly hit the beach showers whenever you can.
How well do you treat your hair when styling it?
It’s difficult to deny it. We regularly mistreat our hair. It’s a wonder the vast majority of people aren’t bald. Consider these styling routines, done everyday and accepted on a wide level, which seriously weaken the health and quality of hair: straightening, hot curlers, perms, bleaching, chemical coloring, blow drying, hair gels and much more. Weakened hair, a dry scalp and who knows what other evils exposure to these chemicals and conditions bring are likely. Go outside a lot to enjoy the sun, which already beats up on your hair, and it makes even less sense to be treating your hair so poorly with these kinds of styling practices.
Even wig-wearers might be attacking their own hair and not realize it. That is if they’re wearing synthetic wigs. It’s highly encouraged to wear only human hair wigs as they allow your scalp to breathe. Something even more crucial in the hot days of summer. Add to that styles that pull on the hair common to many women - whether it’s tight pony tails, barrettes and other practices – and you could see increased ‘traction’ hair loss as a result.
